About Me
HELLO, I’M LIAM…
A dog trainer and behavioural specialist from Chester.
I’ve always had an affinity with dogs and a passion for dog training. I grew up around German Shepherds and have had dogs my whole life. When one of our dogs developed behavioural problems after being attacked, I wanted to understand why; reading books, watching everything I could find online, and even completing a Behaviour Adjustment Theory Seminar to learn more.
REVISITING MY PASSION
After being medically discharged from the armed forces, I decided to pursue my lifelong interest in dog training and behaviour wholeheartedly.
I attended courses and seminars with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and the Guild of Dog Trainers, completed a Canine Behaviour Diploma, and undertook a three week course in training and handling drug detection dogs accredited by the National Association of Security Dog Users and Highfield Accreditations.

That experience led to the creation of Trained & Tamed.
My aim is simple: to help owners understand their dogs, improve unwanted behaviour, and build a better relationship with them through practical training that works in everyday life, enabling you to live a more cooperative and stress-free life together.
Since Trained and Tamed
Since starting Trained & Tamed, I have also worked for a major detection dog supplier, raising and training Explosive Detection Dogs.
I raised 10 litters of Labradors and Springer Spaniels, most of which went on to become working detection dogs. During this time, I also assisted with the training of S.W.A.T. dogs, trained rescue dogs to locate explosives and drugs, and worked on specialist projects involving firearm detection dogs.
Outside of work, I have been involved in PSA, or Protection Sport Association, training my own dogs and helping others at a club I co owned. I also contribute as a decoy at another local club and continue to compete with my own dog.
My own dog, Xena, is an all black Dutch Herder. I have achieved her PSA2 First Leg with her and I am currently training towards her full PSA2 title.
Qualifications & Accreditations
Dual Purpose Drug Detection Dog Handler.
Three week course on training and handling a Drugs Detection Dog; involving leash skills, scent imprinting, drive channelling, and a multitude of other role specific skills. Accredited by The National Association of Security Dog Users, and Highfield Accreditations.
BEHAVIOUR ADJUSTMENT TRAINING
A two day seminar covering techniques and methods of rewiring dogs behaviours and reactions to their triggers.
INSTITUTE OF MODERN DOG TRAINERS
Two, multiple day long courses detailing teaching methods and techniques used within positive reinforcement training involving luring, marker words, clicker training, and shaping.
GUILD OF DOG TRAINERS
An online course followed by a written exam on learning theory and how to implement it.
Years of Decoy experience
Five years of developing dogs in a protection Multiple courses on decoy development. Experience training GP dogs for foreign operational deployments.
CANINE FIRST AID
Level 2 Canine First Aid Qualification covering all of the essential first aid treatments needed for emergency use.
Experienced with puppies
I have raised 10 litters of puppies, Spaniels, Labs, and “Springadors”, to become working detection dogs, many of which were born in my care.
Continued Learning
Countless books, seminars, and online courses. I’m always looking for more information so that I can help as many dogs as possible with as large of a “toolbox” as possible.
CANINE BEHAVIOUR DIPLOMA
An online course covering everything from how dogs evolved and became part of the human existence, right through to their psychology.
